About Cape May Fleet

In 1993, long time whale and dolphin watching as well as sightseeing Captain Jeff Stewart started a new business, called the Cape May Whale Watcher. The day the Cape May Whale Watcher and Captain Jeff Stewart came to Cape May, NJ, a new standard was set for marine mammal watching, eco-tourism, dinner cruising, sightseeing, charter and party boats in Southern New Jersey. He set the bar high, and to date no one has surpassed this original standard of the largest and the fastest boat with the Marine Mammal Sighting Guarantee.

The Cape May Whale Watcher, our original boat, is all aluminum, making for a very strong, yet lightweight hull. This coupled with her 4 diesel engines producing 1600HP push her to speeds in excess of 25 knots. Fast is important. We may go slow when in search mode, but when the report comes in and we are off to the races, speed can mean the difference between 5 minutes of viewing and a half an hour or more of viewing. Maximized viewing time means maximized value.

The length of the Cape May Whale Watcher- registered by the United States Coast Guard at 98.6 ft, is over 20 feet longer than our competitors largest boat. Add on the bow pulpit, and you have a 110 foot long beast of a boat. While the rest of the world tries to make their 65 foot boat bigger- we continue our plan to release an even larger version of the Cape May Whale Watcher- the Whale Watcher II will measure hopefully in the 130 foot to 150 foot range or almost three times the size of our competitors. Size means comfort, both in small and large seas. Bigger boat means less seasickness. Bigger Boat means more ammenities like, large restrooms, handicap accessible, heated and air conditioned cabins, ample seating, hot and cold food at the snack bar- Ice Cream, Pizza, Hot Dogs, Beer and Wine, Fountain Soda, Chips and Crackers and Candy and more. More space and ammenities means more value.

Prior to 1993, if you went whale and dolphin watching in New Jersey and did not see anything, you were told "too bad, should have been here yesterday." In 1993, we started our quest in better Customer Service by offering the first Marine Mammals Sightings Guaranteed in the state of NJ. If we do not sight marine mammals (whales or dolphins or porpoise) we offer a free pass for another trip in the future. Unline our competitors- we have plenty of space and have never turned away a free pass, our free pass never expires, and we do not believe in one dolphin "getting us off the hook (for the Guarantee)." Jeff Stewart believes that if he did not have a good trip- how could you have had a good trip. So, since 1993, our policy has been there is no such thing as getting off the hook for our guarantee. We look for the largest possible group of dolphins or the most whales in an area and maximize your time on the best possible sightings we have avavailable to us on a trip by trip basis. The best guarantee means the best value.

Since 1993, Jeff Stewart has remained committed to you the customers. With over a half million satisfied customers, we continue to improve, change and evolve our business to better serve you. Our new dinner cruise boat, the 110 foot long Spirit of Cape May is the next chapter in our ongoing story of committment and success. Other new additions to the fleet include the Calypso, a 35 foot long research vessel and the Pearl, a 17 foot recon boat. All of us at the Cape May Whale Watcher Fleet look forward to serving you in the future and providing a safe and fun experience on the water for you and your family.
